Offering Quality Support: Is It About Us or Them?

Giving support. What does that look like for you? If you are a private practice professional such as a coach or therapist, you may already be clear on the boundaries and standards you operate from. In my experience, most people have only the best of intentions while being of service to others though at times are often left feeling exhausted and overrun from becoming too highly invested in the outcome. Upon further investigation, they often discover that their actual practice of what support should look like and feel like is often not delivered with strong boundaries and clear communication.

For me, quality support is coming from a place of experience and not opinion. Listen to others for their definition of support, of what they understand support should look like and feel like which often are not constructed with strong boundaries and clear communication.

Support can be words of wisdom, guidance and encouragement or sharing a painful lesson and the outcome. It is also knowing when to challenge and when to redirect, as well as mastering listening skills. I also practice giving support by often letting others just vent or by being with them wherever and however they are.

The trick to offering quality support is two-fold:

1.Be clear on what type of support is needed, which means not holding back on asking for clarity.

2.Be clear on what type of support you are delivering while not taking things personally.

Sometimes I find it almost impossible to not want to react or take things personally, even as холодильник вирпул a trained professional. The key point here is want. What I am clear on is when I offer support to a friend, spouse, family member, client or stranger, my purpose is to keep коммуникатор asus the focus on them and not make it about me. If I operate under this principle, I receive and offer

Low Carb Dieting - The Lifelong Solution to Staying Thin?

Low carb dieting has become a popular way to lose weight quickly, and has even become the preferred lifestyle for thousands of health and weight conscious people. The question is, are low carb diets a realistic lifetime regimen, and are they really healthy?

Tax Time — Life Time

April 15th has come and gone and with it the tax season – at least for most people. I don’t know about you but I needed that two-day grace period. I can always use a little extra time. Think about it. Tax day happens at the same time every year. Some people are so prepared and organized they are ready before the deadline. Thousands more, however, procrastinate. In fact so many procrastinate that they stand in line with hundreds more just to put their tax forms into the mail at the eleventh hour…or should I say the 24th hour. Other folks wait so long that they have to file an extension just to give them “time” to pull things together.

For the first time in 15 years I decided to do my own taxes. XIII: The Conspiracy I guess I just got tired of paying someone to type in all of my numbers into a computer program that would automatically generate my return and tell me how much I had to pay to Uncle Sam. I figured I could do that myself – for free. I have to admit though, that I still have a little anxiety about whether or not электроплиты беко I inputted the numbers correctly.

Tax time kind of reminds me of how we sometimes approach life – actually, it may even be an extension of it. For instance, take a look at how some of the following tax attitudes mirror some of our attitudes of life.

The Butterfly Effect Part II: Inside the Chinese Firewall

The Butterfly Effect Part II: Inside the Chinese Firewall

This is the second part of my series on the Internet in China. I recently returned from a year teaching at a Chinese University. During my time in China, I had the pleasure of getting to know the state of the Internet in China, both directly and indirectly, through my own use of the Internet and the classes. In my last article, The Butterfly Effect Part I: Microsoft, Security, and the Developing World, I dealt with the effect of pirated software and security and its impact on development. In this article, I would like to cover my experience of the Chinese Firewall from the inside and the way we contribute to censorship in China.

Scanning Chinese networks the old fashion way with nmap or similar tools struck me as a bit impolite and potentially illegal. Being on the other side of the wall, I was not going to push my luck too much. However, part of my teaching duties involved several classes on research writing and basic computer skills. This gave me access to a very effective network testing tool. Basically, several hundred average Chinese University students. To get an idea of what the average Chinese experience of the outside Internet world was like, I could simply assign my students to retrieve various information from the Internet and wait for their reports. For example, if a site was not reachable from inside China, I would be quickly inundated by emails and questions from panic stricken students trying to complete their homework assignments.

My total number of students was well over a 1,000 for the length of the school year. I could also add to this all the miscellaneous students, staff, and public seminars where I simply referred them to my teaching website (hosted outside of China). That would bring the number to something like 2,000 people. About 100-200 in any given week where engaged in some sort of Internet related project for my classes. My own холодильник беко modest teaching site received a little over 5,000 hits in my time in China. So, through my classes at the University and other schools in Eastern-Central China, I was able to run a sort of ongoing distributed human scan of Internet connectivity in China.

My informal survey results: Of course there is always a few students that would, for one reason or another, be incapable of connecting; however, when a site could not be accessed at all, I would see my student red flag go up quickly. Normally, within about 24 hours of Cadillac Records giving an assignment it would be obvious that
